LANCASTER MASONIC LODGE #160

105 Oak Street, Lancaster, Texas 75146    (Mailing address: Secretary, Lancaster Lodge 160, 109 Hidden lane, red oak, Texas 75154)

Before 1900 most of the money and effort was directed to education, especially in those years before establishment of a viable public school system. The Grand Lodge of Texas established an education fund in 1847 and appointed a superintendent of education the following year. Between 1850 and 1873 the legislature chartered seventeen Masonic-sponsored schools. Texas Masons also helped establish more than 100 other unchartered schools. In addition, many of the early public schools initially met in lodge buildings. Mirabeau B. Lamar, 2nd President of Republic of Texas, and Grand Master of Texas Masons, was a key innovator in developing the Texas Public System during his political career.

Kindness and charitable giving are deeply ingrained within the principles of Freemasonry and the organisation provides the structure for members to make positive contributions to their communities and various causes through fundraising events or volunteer work.

Masonic Lodges are non-profit organizations that are organized under a set of bylaws and are generally tax-exempt under section 501 (c) (8) of the Internal Revenue Code. They operate under the “lodge system” and are governed by elected officers who are responsible for the administration of the Lodge.

Some conspiracy theorists claim that the Freemasons are a cult with connections to the Illuminati or with the fabled Elders of Zion as part of an anti-Semitic claim that Jewish bankers control the world's governments.
